The population settlements in the Dal Lake are mainly in the houseboats, Doonga boats and Hamlets. More than 50000 people live in these settlements. Besides this, there is a floating population of tourists who stay in the house boats. Human settlement within the lake is one of the contributing factors to its pollution.
